Why AI-readability matters
AI assistants now handle a growing share of shopping research. They recommend products by reading structured data and an llms.txt index — not by guessing from a scrape. Stores that publish clean, machine-readable data get found, parsed, and recommended; stores that don't are invisible to that channel.
What does AI-readable mean for a website?
AI shopping and search assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity read structured data (Schema.org JSON-LD) and an llms.txt index to understand and recommend a business. A site that publishes them clearly is far more likely to be found and cited — whether it's a Shopify store or any other website.
What does the checker look at?
It reads your homepage and a representative product or service page the way an AI agent would, then scores roughly 20 checks across five dimensions: brand identity (Organization/WebSite, logo, social profiles), products and catalog (Product, Offer price, ratings, breadcrumbs), AI discovery files (llms.txt, agents.md, robots.txt access for GPTBot/ClaudeBot/PerplexityBot, sitemap), answer-engine meta (title, description, canonical, Open Graph), and trust signals (return policy, shipping, FAQ schema).
