Intelligems vs ABConvert vs Shoplift: Shopify A/B Testing in 2026

A/B testing on Shopify has become a platform category, and Intelligems, ABConvert, and Shoplift cover three useful approaches. They overlap less than their listings suggest. What matters is what you can test, how prices reach checkout, and how much evidence you need before acting on a result.

Facts checked September 14, 2026, against vendor listings, pricing pages, and documentation. This comparison evaluates documented capabilities and limitations; it is not a hands-on benchmark.

Disclosure: we have a referral relationship with Intelligems and none with ABConvert or Shoplift. Recommendations reflect each app's fit for the job and its published limitations.

The short version

  • Intelligems is the pricing-and-profit specialist, with a broad set of shipping, merchandising, content, and offer experiments. It documents implementation trade-offs and statistical methodology. Smart Content starts at $69/month; pricing tests require Smart Pricing or an applicable bundle.
  • ABConvert offers price testing from $199/month on Growth and bills by orders involved in tests. That can matter more than entry price if you test only part of a larger store. Its published allowances, overages, statistics, and ad-traffic guidance make those trade-offs easier to evaluate.
  • Shoplift combines theme and template testing with native price tests on Advanced and Pro. Price testing uses Cart Transform Functions and starts on the $399/month Advanced plan, with compatibility requirements to check before buying.

Pricing and what unlocks where

These are USD monthly starting prices, not annual equivalents or quotes for every store size. App subscription tiers and Shopify subscription requirements are separate.

Intelligems' calculator changes with order volume and module selection. The Unlimited starting price above is a bundle price, not a verified minimum for buying Smart Pricing alone. How price testing actually works, app by app

Intelligems: dynamic pricing with documented trade-offs

Intelligems' primary route uses Shopify Cart Transform Functions, with frontend price changes and matching adjustments in cart and checkout. Its documentation says this route works across Shopify plans. Duplicate products remain an alternative for incompatible configurations. Integration overview.

The catalog normally moves to the highest price being tested, which also affects Google Shopping and other connected channels. Intelligems recommends refreshing the feed. It also documents conflicts with Shopify Bundles and situations where duplicate products may still be necessary. Price-testing FAQs.

ABConvert: check the current method and ad audience

ABConvert's documentation explicitly includes Cart Transform price tests in its 2.0 integration reference. Ask which implementation applies to your store, especially if you use subscriptions or have an older installation. Current integration reference.

Its ad guide recommends assigning ad visitors to the control price and provides 2.0 setup instructions. That changes the overall traffic split and the audience represented by the result. Confirm how the analysis handles those assignments before comparing groups. Ad-traffic guidance.

Shoplift: native price testing, with compatibility limits

Shoplift requires a one-time theme setup to mark price displays and pass test data to the cart. It updates the catalog to the highest test price when needed and uses Cart Transform Functions at checkout. Its docs explicitly explain the impact on external feeds.

The current requirements include a supported Advanced or Pro plan, a single-currency store, and compatible product pages and bundles. Recharge is the documented exception for subscription products. Check the named page-builder exclusions even if the app generally integrates with your builder. Price-testing overview and requirements.

Statistical honesty

Intelligems documents a Bayesian model with Monte Carlo simulation, probabilities to beat control and to be best, and uncertainty intervals. It recommends at least 300 orders per group and seven days, while explicitly noting that those minimums do not guarantee significance. Statistical methodology.

ABConvert documents hypothesis testing using Z-scores and p-values, with one- or two-sided tests and configurable confidence levels. Its guidance suggests 10,000 views and 200 orders. Choose the hypothesis and confidence level before reading the results. Analytics and statistics guide.

Shoplift includes Bayesian predictive analysis on Core. Ask how winner thresholds, uncertainty, and stopping rules apply to the metric you intend to optimize. Plan features.

These are different approaches, not interchangeable confidence scores. Required sample size depends on your baseline conversion rate, the size of the change you want to detect, and the metric. A vendor's minimum is a starting point for planning, not proof that a test is conclusive. An inconclusive result also does not establish that two experiences are equivalent.

Profit reporting is not exclusive to Intelligems: ABConvert's listing also describes COGS-aware metrics. Compare which costs are included and whether a result improves profit per visitor, rather than conversion rate alone.

Decision rules

  1. Testing prices, margins, shipping thresholds, and offers together: shortlist Intelligems. Get the complete module quote and a demonstration of your intended combinations, including how costs enter profit reporting. Its offer-combination controls and experiment-interference guidance are useful starting points. Our price-testing guide covers the planning questions before you spend anything.
  2. Price testing on a tighter budget or only part of a larger store: compare ABConvert Growth at $199/month. Estimate test-order overages, confirm your integrations, and decide how ad traffic will enter the experiment. Billing on test orders can matter more than the base subscription.
  3. Testing themes, templates, and layouts: consider Shoplift. If prices are part of the roadmap, evaluate Advanced and its native price-testing requirements too. Check the eligible traffic for the pages and products you will actually test.
  4. Too little traffic for a useful result: prioritize obvious improvements and grow the relevant audience. Set an effect-size target and stopping rule before buying software; a dashboard cannot make an underpowered test conclusive.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Which Shopify A/B testing app is best?
Choose by job: Intelligems for a broad pricing, shipping, and offer-testing program; ABConvert for price testing from $199/month with billing based on test orders; Shoplift for theme and template workflows with native price testing on Advanced or Pro. Compare costs at your actual volume and check your store's integrations.
How does price testing keep storefront and checkout prices consistent?
Intelligems and Shoplift document frontend price changes paired with Cart Transform Functions at checkout. ABConvert also documents Cart Transform price tests. Duplicate-product methods remain relevant for some configurations. Preview each test group across product pages, cart, and checkout, and check the effect on connected product feeds.
Can I try price testing before paying?
ABConvert advertises a 14-day Growth trial and Shoplift lists a 14-day trial on Advanced, their price-testing tiers. Intelligems explicitly excludes Smart Pricing from its 14-day trial. Check eligibility, compatibility, and setup requirements before starting the clock.
How much traffic do I need to A/B test my Shopify store?
There is no universal visitor threshold. Required sample size depends on baseline conversion, the effect you want to detect, the metric, and the number of variations. Intelligems recommends at least 300 orders per group and seven days; ABConvert suggests 10,000 views and 200 orders. These are vendor guidelines, not guarantees of a conclusive result.
Can price testing affect my Google Shopping ads?
Yes. Avoiding duplicate products does not automatically keep ad feeds, storefront prices, and checkout prices aligned. Intelligems and Shoplift document setting catalog prices to the highest tested price; ABConvert documents routing ad traffic to the control. Review the method and the resulting test audience before launch.
